Part A

What has been my creativity over the past few years?

In the past few years all of my creativity was for uni work and college work. At college I created a portfolio of graphic design work, film work, journalism and photographic work. This year at uni I have created various films, animations and flash files.

Who has it been for?

At college most of the work was to piece together my portfolio so I could get into university.

Why have I done it this way? Was it my decision or someone else's?

All of the work done at college and uni has been to an assessment criteria. Although, the assessment criteria have a guide to advise towards a better mark, it has been up to me (the student) to create the work to my own style and interpretation. So I guess in a way its both my decision and the people who write the criteria.

What do I want the future of my creativity to be?

Ideally I'd like for my creativity to flourish into something practical so I can carry it further into a career...admittedly though, I'm not sure which pathway to choose next year, therefore a little unsure of what career that could lead to.

Part B

In what specific ways can research help me get to these new places?

Research can help me to make the decisions on the pathway I'd like to take, and ultimately the career I'd like to progress in. Also researching can help me discover other designers and artists for inspiration. Research is important in assignments and essays as these can not just be based on opinions, the information has to be backed up and extracted from books, websites, journals etc.

Which research starting point do I feel most drawn to?

I feel the most drawn to interim research because its the most relevant to the present time. Its all about the development of current fashions and working with them and bringing them forward into the future.

Which do I feel wary of?

I work at the Carphone Warehouse, and every couple of months a phone is bought out, with such enhancements on the previous models, that it seems to change the wants and needs of the consumer market. I'd say that interim research is very relevant in this case as the mobile phone is developing with the consumer needs

Which seem irrelevant?

I think that none of the research methods are irrelevant, although one I personally have never used in any of my projects is Descriptive. I think that an overall opinion or analysis done through researching is highly important as you can achieve a more definitive conclusion this way. They all have there own strengths and used together where possible could draw a more complete answer, although I'm assuming all research methods collaborating is rare.

Here is my favorite One Shot film 'The paper series'. Another thanks to the contribution of Callum for his Voice over, and Stewart for staying up most of the night to make the paper swans. I liked trying to create one of those moments that no one really ever gets to see, even if the story is a little bit farfetched.

Here is the first of our One shot films 'Gone Fishing'. We did two films we thought were of a good standard, and I just want to Holla! Stewart and Callum for the special effects with the rain and the speech bubbles.

I'm on a roll, my interactive narrative as required (another hyperlinked image). I'm kinda happy with it but as usual i've had a ton of different ideas and improvements on this one. Its nothing like the map of the Galapagos Islands that i looked at, and I kind of wish it was

Here is my pixelation, at last i've been able to upload something onto here (even if it is only a hyperlinked image), I feel a bit guilty for not uploading stuff but it just never works!!!

It didn't turn out quite how I wanted it too, but i'm quite proud, to say i've never used Premiere Pro before now.

The cbeebies website (I have a 3 year old niece i go on there with her...Oh who am i kidding)

The cbeebies website has lots of examples of interactive narratives...

On the stories and rhymes section of the cbeebies website are many stories with multi-choice characters, stories and scenarios. They are really bright and bold and fun to keep small children entertained so for some examples check out www.cbeebies.co.uk

Thoughts on a piece...

On this website is a great example of an interactive narrative. The website starts off with a 40 second introductory video about the website. After the video a map of the galapagos islands loads up, and dotted around the maps are pins. If you hover over the pins a video or an image loads up and tells you a small story.

I think this is a great example of an interactive narrative and gives you a real insight into the lives of the people of the galapagos islands. I like the use of the pins as the buttons to each narrative and also the idea of a map to choose your direction and story. At the top right hand corner are the hyperlinks which means it is out the way of the main feature. At the bottom right of the page is an image of a little tag with 4 buttons, stories, people, places and facts. If you click on one of these the colour of the pins change and also move around and tells you more about either the stories, people, places or facts

unfortunately my internet connection is only a mobile dongle so until i move into my new place i can't get proper broadband, therefore i can't upload images or videos. sorry

Interactive Narrative

My idea for an interactive narrative

As a new student not quite sure where they are, my narrative is about exploring Nottingham for the first time.
The user has the options of different directions each ending up in different places and scenarios.
Has alternate endings to each direction and scenario.

If you go left or right you could end up at your next destination, in a tussle, dead or even back at home. If you get to the end you could end up at the pub, at home or in hospital/dead.

I will take photos of junctions and destinations in each direction to deliver option
